A Basketball Blog? Is That Necessary?

The interwebs seem to be overrun with blogs of this sort, but I feel like the culture of the form is so unique that I just had to participate. There are opportunities to comment on race, sports culture, fandom, but, most of all, to wax poetic on a sport that I love more with every passing year.

Sterl the Pearl was a nickname my highschool coach dropped on me simply because it rhymed with my name. I had no idea who Earl Monroe was at the time; I've since done some homework and checked out poor quality youtube videos of the man. He hasn't captured my imagination the way my favourite players have, though he certainly had some slick moves.

I feel like it might be a good idea to get some disclaimers out of the way before I kick this blog off: I am a Raptors fan first and foremost. Not the most glamorous team to cheer for, I know. When you live near Toronto though, it's simply a matter of cheering for your local team. As a Raptors fan, I hate Vince Carter, and I also hate Hedo Turkoglu (nowhere near as much as Vince).
